But there is an important inspection problem:
Fishing net twine is not always perfectly round.
A twine may become:
Flattened
Oval
Locally compressed
If the inspector measures only one direction, the result may not represent the true cross-sectional condition.
The key principle is:
Diameter inspection should consider both size and roundness, especially when the twine shows signs of compression or deformation.
Imagine a twine that measures:
2.6 mm in one direction
2.2 mm after rotating the measuring direction
If only the larger value is recorded, the twine may appear normal.
But the difference shows that the cross-section is no longer close to round.
This is why one measurement direction may be insufficient.
In practical inspection, roundness refers to how similar the twine diameter is when measured from different directions around the same point.
A relatively round twine should produce similar readings when the measurement direction changes.
A flattened or oval twine produces a larger difference.
At a suspicious point, measure the twine in at least two directions.
For example:
Maximum apparent diameter
Minimum apparent diameter
Then compare the results.
A large difference indicates cross-sectional deformation.
Fishing net twine can be compressed by:
Tight knots
Border ropes
Hardware
Sinker connections
Long-term packaging pressure
Compression may make one side wider while reducing thickness in another direction.
So a single “diameter” value can hide the deformation.
Twine near knots may naturally be compressed by the net construction.
For diameter comparison, inspectors should define where measurements are taken.
For example:
Straight twine section between knots
Fixed distance away from the knot
Do not compare a heavily compressed knot-adjacent section with a relaxed straight section.
For batch inspection, measure equivalent locations.
Useful comparison points include:
Main panel center
Near border
Near seam
Near attachment area
This helps determine whether a roundness difference is local or widespread.
A flattened twine can be evidence of:
Repeated pressure
Hardware contact
Tight attachment
Long-term compression
Location is important.
If flattening appears only beside a sinker tube or frame component, mechanical contact should be investigated.
A round twine is not automatically stronger.
Likewise, a slightly oval twine does not automatically mean the net must be rejected.
Roundness is a geometric inspection indicator.
Remaining strength should be evaluated with suitable testing when required.
For repeat orders, roundness can help identify whether twine construction and handling remain consistent.
Compare:
Maximum diameter
Minimum diameter
Difference between the two
Measurement location
If one batch shows much greater flattening than the approved reference, investigate the cause.
Instead of writing:
Twine Diameter: 2.5 mm
a more informative inspection record may show:
Maximum: 2.58 mm
Minimum: 2.43 mm
Location: center panel
Condition: straight section between knots
This makes future batch comparison more reliable.
During diameter inspection:
Select a straight representative twine section
Avoid measuring directly on a knot
Measure in more than one direction
Record maximum diameter
Record minimum diameter
Record measurement location
Compare multiple points
Investigate further when:
Maximum and minimum readings differ strongly
Flattening is concentrated near hardware
One production batch differs from another
Twine becomes progressively flatter along one zone
Compression marks appear with abrasion or polishing
For large fishing net orders, buyers often compare products by nominal twine diameter.
But a nominal value alone may not show whether the twine is:
Consistently round
Locally flattened
Compressed during handling
Different between production zones
Adding roundness checks makes diameter inspection more meaningful.
Fishing net twine should not always be treated as a perfectly round cylinder.
When deformation is present, the more useful question is:
“What are the maximum and minimum diameters at this point?”
The key principle is:
Twine diameter inspection becomes more reliable when size, roundness, location, and measurement condition are recorded together.
